SAC leads Maranoa Drug Action Team

Over the past six months, SAC have been leading the Maranoa Drug Action Team in a bid to gain further funding to develop and implement a Community Action Plan in the Maranoa.

As a joint Federal Government and Alcohol and Drug Foundation (ADF) initiative, the Local Drug Action Team (LDAT) program is designed to empower communities and local groups to build on existing drug and alcohol primary prevention methods and reduce risk factors associated with the misuse of alcohol and other drugs.

SAC Manager, Jessica Walsh, stated the Maranoa Drug Action team is one of 80 Local Drug Action Teams across the country.

“Through the national LDAT program, the Maranoa Drug Action Team, endeavors to develop and implement a community led action plan that will focus on preventing drug use within the Maranoa.

“There are a number of community organisation and services that have partnered together to form the Maranoa Drug Action Team and as a result, we hope to make a real difference in our community”.

The Maranoa Drug Action Team have been meeting monthly to discuss opportunities and devise an achievable strategy.

They’re also currently running a competition to encourage local youths aged 12-17 to fill out a survey.

“It is hoped that through this survey, we’ll uncover some really useful insights into our target market which will help shape our action plan,” Jessica said.
